Most disappointing CCTV systems fail for the same reason: the cameras were put where they were easy to fix, not where they could identify a person or a number plate. We start with the questions that matter after an incident. Which doors and gates need a clear face shot? Where do vehicles enter? What happens at night when the lighting changes?
From there we choose the camera type, lens and resolution for each position. A wide view of a car park and an identification view of a doorway need different equipment, and mixing the two is usually what gives the best result for the budget. On commercial sites we also plan recording retention around how quickly an incident is normally reported, so footage is still there when someone asks for it.
We install IP systems with PoE network cabling and HD analogue systems where existing coax can be reused. Recording is set up on an NVR or DVR sized for the number of cameras and the retention period you need, and remote viewing is configured on your phone so you can check the property while you are away.
If you already have a system that has stopped recording, lost cameras or will not connect remotely, we carry out structured fault finding on DVRs, NVRs, network switches and PoE power before recommending any replacement.

Questions answered
Common questions about CCTV installation
How many cameras do I need?
It depends on what each camera has to achieve. A typical house is often covered well by four to six cameras, while a commercial unit may need more for entrances, yards and stock areas. We confirm the number on the survey once we have seen the views.
Can I view my cameras on my phone?
Yes. Remote viewing can be set up where the recorder and the site internet connection support it. We configure the app during handover and check it works away from your Wi-Fi.
How long is footage kept?
Retention depends on the recorder's storage, the number of cameras and the recording settings. Many homes keep two to four weeks. Businesses should set a period that matches their purpose and can be justified under data protection guidance.
Do I need a sign for CCTV at my business?
Yes. If you record identifiable people you should display clear signs saying CCTV is in operation and who to contact. The ICO guidance explains what the signs should include.
Can you repair a system another company installed?
Usually, yes. We diagnose recorders, cameras, cabling and network faults on most mainstream systems and tell you honestly whether a repair or a replacement makes more sense.
